How transparent is the information around my investments?
It’s very transparent. You will know everything that is going on around your investments, from shifts in the market to up-to-date valuations on all your funds. As a matter of routine, we will hold regular reviews of your portfolio with you, to gauge how your investments are performing in line with your risk tolerance profile and your life goals. If things change, then we change with them. For you to have complete access to the progress of your investments, we even provide our myWealth app. This is a sophisticated interface that you can use on your desktop computer, your tablet, or your smartphone to monitor the the performance of your portfolio, as well as every other aspect of your financial affairs so that you can have a complete overhead view of your finances wherever you are.
What tools or software do you use to decide investment strategies?
We will use the most up-to-date and effective industry software available to us at the time. Currently, we use Prestwood Professional to give us detailed, valuable insights into financial forecasts and cash-flow planning, and also the FinaMetrica system – an extensive risk profiling software that establishes a client’s risk tolerance and plays a key part in influencing our investment decisions.
We back this up with experienced human input from our investment committee team, who have a detailed investment mandate to sift through the thousands of funds available to the UK market and find the few that are worth our attention. We choose funds that compliment each other in the form of a portfolio, we are aiming for a steady, reliable return. But we are always flexible, and will change when the market changes.
Is this a better option than a stocks and shares ISA?
This is a bit like comparing apples and oranges. The important point to bear in mind is that an ISA is not an investment; it is a tax wrapper where you can place funds in a savings account and those funds will be used by the provider to achieve growth for themselves, from which they will give you a return. It’s quite a different use of your money. Also note that a company cannot have an ISA – it is, after all, an ‘individual’ savings account, where growth is tax-free, and so not available to a corporate entity. Any profits made from investments are assessable on the company, and a £10,000 profit will always be classified and taxed as such.
What returns should I expect on average?
There are many variables involved and too many unknown factors to give you an estimate of what percentage return you might see on any investments. However, what we can do is give you our professional opinions and in-depth advice on a range of investment options available to you. The best thing to do is to talk to us about what you have to invest and what kind of results you are looking for. We will then be able to go over all the possible forecasts and models of various investment scenarios, in line with your risk profile, to give you an intelligent idea of what might the results might be. From there, you’ll be able to make an informed decision on how best to use your money.
